What to blog about on a beautiful Tews Day morning. How about… hummingbirds? And SUGAR?
Have you ever noticed how hyper hummingbirds are? I have to wonder if it isn’t because of all that sugar they drink from feeders with homemade feeder syrup – sugar, water and food coloring! Makes you wonder about your own body, huh!? Well, it should!
We do not have to consume white, refined sugar to be consuming sugar. Its everywhere and it includes sucrose (as in table sugar), glucose, fructose (as in fruit sugar), lactose (as in milk), maltose or malts (as in rice malt and honey), jam (contains concentrated juice which is high in fruit sugar), palm sugar (traditionally used in macrobiotic cooking), maple syrup, corn syrup, and the very sneaky and BAD-4-you organic brown sugar, which is not all that different from white sugar. Even alcohol is a sugar… and brown rice syrup (a “hidden” sugar in some Kashi cereals).
Take a look at some of the things sugar can do to you, your body, your DNA, and your weight loss program, then think twice before eating so much of it from now on:
* Sugar is a major downfall in overweight people. For obese individuals, consuming even a teaspoon of sugar a day would cause metabolic imbalances that contribute to obesity.
* Sugar can decrease growth hormone (the key to staying youthful and lean)
* Sugar feeds cancer
* Sugar greatly assists the uncontrolled growth of Candida Albicans (yeast infections)
* Sugar increases cholesterol
* Sugar can weaken eyesight
* Sugar can cause drowsiness and decreased activity
* Sugar can interfere with the absorption of protein
* Sugar causes food allergies
* Sugar contributes to diabetes
* Sugar can contribute to eczema
* Sugar can cause cardiovascular disease
* Sugar can impair the structure of DNA
* Sugar can cause hyperactivity, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and crankiness
* Sugar contributes to the reduction in defense against bacterial infection (infectious diseases)
* Sugar contributes to osteoporosis
Try honey (if you don’t like the strong flavor of clover, try alfalfa; it’s very mild [link on left, The Honey jar]), xylitol or stevia as alternate choices for sweeteners. Raw honey has a long list of beneficial functions. Honey increases calcium absorption, can increase hemoglobin count and treat or prevent anemia caused by nutritional factors, can help arthritic joints when combined with apple cider vinegar, can help fights colds and respiratory infections of all kinds, can help to boost gastrointestinal ulcer healing, provides an array of vitamins and minerals, and supplies instant energy without the insulin surge caused by white sugar.
Yea sugar makes you fat!!!!
Hello there. I do not know how I happened upon your website today, but I am glad that I did. I decided 4 weeks ago that I was going to work on my outside appearance which would in turn improve my inner appearance to myself. I have been dissatisfied for a very long time with my size and weight. When the neurologist asked me how long I had been “this overweight” I had no answer for him. I had always been “chunky: as far back as I could remember. One day, I was surfing netflix to find a movie to watch and decided to look into the workouts. I set up the Jillian Michaels workouts to watch on my tv. It took me about a week to decide to actually DO the workouts. The first couple times I did the workouts, I could only make it approximately halfway through the workout. Then, one day, I made it through the whole thing. I didn’t do EVERY rep that they did…but I did as many as I could. If they did 10, I tried to do 10, but maybe only got in 7 or 8. But, I made it through the entire thing. I did every exercise. Both times that it occured in the video. YAY ME! I am three weeks in, and doing this on my own with encouraging words from friends. I feel better. I have amore energy. People have started to say they can see a difference in me already. Already? Really? Are you sure? You’re just saying that so I will feel better. But then…someone who hadn’t seen me in several weeks asked me if I was losing size…and it made my day. I am committed to keep working out. I am committed to continue eating healthy/healthier. And I am committed to be a healthier me.
Thank you for logging your journey as you strive to be a healthier you. I look forward to reading your thoughts as you post them. Some of your entries sound as if they are my own words.
I agree with you. There are problems beyond what you have listed. But for years we have consumed sugars unaware in processed foods, fast foods, and even in health foods. When I got off sugars, cravings went away. I have been off the refined sugars for at least two years and have had remarkble changes in every part of my body. Some examples are improved memory, more lung capacity when exercising (no shortness of breath), cooling system functioning better (do not need great quaities of air conditioning to keep cool), joints don’t hurt anymore, vision improved, and hair seems healthier. These are just a few that I have noticed but there are many more. When I consume refined sugar now, I almost instantly feel sluggish, joint ache, flu like symptons, and others but you get the drift. Sugars are hid in almost everything. You say it is suppose to be listed but the rules state if it is below a certain % it does not have to be listed. Normally that would be OK but considering these things are accumlative, after years of consumption they really add up in your system. The key is to eat live foods and organic meats.
