With or Without Him, More

I had a post last year on this same date:  With Or Without Him

In that post, I talked about how we were in the process of preparing for a move to another state (Texas). This is a semi-follow-through, an exact year later.

Exactly a year ago, we were preparing. We had yet to put the house on the market (it closed mid-December after a month on market). Now, even though I’m no longer living with boxes surrounding me, I have a leetle issue because every. single. thing I own other than hotel-stuff is sitting in storage – 3 units to be exact.

With few changes from last year’s conversation:

Me: Have you seen my such-and-such item? I could have sworn it was here in the luggage. (Some little something, like extra laptop gadgets.)

AH: I’m pretty sure it’s the storage unit.

Me: Really? Are you kidding me? I use that all the time!!

AH: Well, if you didn’t want to know, you shouldn’t have asked me to help you pack the last of the stuff.

Me: I DIDN’T ask, you volunteered when I was packing to put stuff in storage from the house (we’d had a temp rental for the past 5 months).

AH: Well, if you didn’t want help, you shouldn’t have said yes when I asked if you needed help.

Me: (Smoke coming out ears)

Me: I guess I should have made a list of things NOT to go to any storage unit at all at this time.

AH: Well, I guess you should have.

End of discussion.

Again, this above discussion wasn’t done in anger but I now know he was being snarky. I know because he told me so.

Now we are sitting in a motel room, waiting to look at the home we are finally interested in. We can’t see it until Monday but we’ve been here a few days already.

In case you’ve forgotten or never experienced it, sitting in a motel room can be claustrophobic (especially if the telephone doesn’t work, the internet goes off from 1:30 p,m, to 5:00 p.m, the laundry area is out of order, the snack machine is out of order, the pop machine is out of order, and you have to use your imagination to even believe that’s a Continental breakfast).

All that can affect your attitude, which in turn makes you look at the other person with intent in your heart – intentions that God did not intend you to think about your loved one. It might have to involve repenting.

The most important thing is that he’s pretty good at finding things in said storage units. If not, he just buys me another (like a mug I can use in a microwave – since I haven’t used on in 9 years).

Since we saw this movie, he ALWAYS pulls that “with me or without me” card from the movie, Knight and Day (Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, hysterical). And he’s right. It IS important that we stay hooked together, against anything that would try to steal our togetherness. If you are looking for bracelet. There’s something to suit every look, from body-hugging to structured, from cuffs to chain chain bracelet and cuffs.

Maybe sometimes things don’t go quite right. Sometimes you have to choose to be on each other’s side and not attack. But you know what? I am NOT looking a gift horse… um, gift Alpha Hubby in the mouth. We believe in other another, We stick together, like glue. Joined at the hips (personal joke).

He blesses me. He loves me. That is worth far more to me than anything else on this earth. So baby? I believe in you. I believe in the dream. I believe together we conquer!

The same back at ‘cha – I already know. He’s with me; I’m with him. It’s all good.

  1. My husband has called me His Pioneer Woman because I’ve followed him wherever God’s led Him. It’s not easy – pulling up roots without damaging ourselves and those around us – but I’ve decided that the only Home we’re made for is Heaven – and the bible of full of too many stories of moving from one place to another – we’re called to be a peculiar people, to be nomads outside of Eden. Praying for you and your Alpha Hubs! Someone once told me God will honor following my husband when he’s going where God tells him to go – and God has! It’s not always been easy, but God has abundantly!

  2. Dearest Nan,
    Hoping this comment goes through…
Oh, we both have been there and know what you are talking about.
We moved to Italy with 4 suitcases and little did we know that it would be ALL we had to live with for 8 weeks due to strike in the harbor. Finally our containers with the cars (yes, I drove Dad’s car from The Netherlands to the Venice area to borrow for a couple of weeks…) and all our belongings. What fun to do laundry in the bathtub and to hang it around on the shower curtain rods. And to cook in one newly acquired pot; how many meals can you invent for doing in one pot; aside from a mealtime soup? Haha, so much fun… And money runs out fast if you want to eat outside of the home!
Never forgot that phone call with Dad telling him we had 3 cars now if he wanted his back?! Haha… lots of humor is needed.
So good luck with your time without having access to special things. After a while you even doubt if you ever had them…
    Hugs,
    Mariette

PS Today we watched Dad’s ceremony at the crematory via live stream on my iMac… at 6:30 AM over 8,000 km away. Feeling blessed for following my instincts to go there ONE more time instead of using the cheap offer for flying from Atlanta to Budapest via Viking. So very happy for having seen Dad so happy when we arrived and went straight to see him, he was so talkative and shared so many things. Treasures and it was worth it!!!

  3. OK, I’m laughing so much right now. I give you, hands down, the prize of the worst experiences with motels! Funnily enough, this one is a Comfort Inn. Everything is out of order although the people are super nice & friendly. It’s also got bonus points because the BED is awesome. I am afraid, thought, that our bull would be very unhappy in PA although I’d be thrilled!!! Smooches to you, Suzanne!

  4. Are you sure that motel wasn’t in Williamstown, Massachusetts? Based on your description, I could have sworn we stayed there. There, or at the scary no star Comfort Inn in Charleston, South Carolina. Or The Thunderbird Motel on Lake George where we had to run the window AC unit that had no ability to produce cold air, but which produced sufficient noise to block out some of the noise from the all night party going on next door. Finally, there was Doña Pepa’s guest house in Seville, Spain on our first ever trip together where the sheets were actually slimy. (Shudder). These are the places to which we compare every place we stay during our travels. It’s a very low bar.

Congratulations on selling your house. If you have any desire to move to Philly, our condo on Rittenhouse Square is for sale. We moved to a less chi chi neighborhood in April, but our new place has daylight. Yay! Fortunately, we didn’t have to employ any storage units and our new place comes with a little storage area that has come in handy.

As for the point of your essay. The subtitle could be <> Mr. Excitement and I have always resolved to be each other’s port in the storm, and in a 37 year marriage there have been some stormy seas, but we both try hard not to rock the boat. (I’m “down the shore” in New Jersey which I will use as an excuse for the nautical metaphors.) I hope you find your “forever home” soon. Best wishes to you and Alpha Hubby for a safe and happy 4th of July.
